World fat bike day

It is celebrated on the first Saturday of December International fat bike day. The first bikes with wide tires appeared in pictures in English periodicals for cyclists as early as 1932. At that time, the photo showed a cyclist on a bike with thick tires. The invention of the fat bike is attributed to Mark Grunwald from Alaska, who coined the term.

Due to the width of the tire and low pressure, it has high passability on loose, snowy or sandy tracks, as well as in difficult-to-pass areas with tall grass. It is difficult or impossible to ride such roads on typical bicycles.

The width of the tires on such bicycles is 3.5-5 inches, and the rim can be up to 10 cm wide.

An important stage in the formation of the movement and the development of this direction was the official championship of the USA in 2015. American states are setting the trend for fat biking, which is being followed by other countries.

There are competitions for fatbikers, and the annual Pugsley World Championships are held in Decorah, Iowa. The movement of fat biking is gradually transforming from an element of enjoyment to a sports direction.
