This holiday date was initiated by Buffalo Mayor Stan Makowski in 1977. The first dish of wings was created at the Anchor Bar and Grill in 1964 almost by accident by Teresa Bellisio. The woman simply fried the product in a pan and added hot sauce. She served the dish to her son Dominic and his college friends for dinner. The guys liked the dish so much that the restaurant began to often prepare such wings. Later, the recipe became popular in the United States, and then throughout the world.
