International Bacon Day
International Bacon Day is celebrated every year on the first Saturday in September before the US national holiday, Labor Day. This is the most favorite unofficial holiday of people who cannot imagine their diet without an appetizing delicacy.
There are two versions of the occurrence of the event. Some are sure that Bacon Day was introduced by the residents of Bradford, Massachusetts, in 2000. Others have information that in 2004 the celebration of the event was conceived by a group of graduate students of the University of California in Colorado. They liked the salted piece of meat so much that they decided to organize a holiday dedicated to it, and created a blog to spread the word.
The celebration includes the organization of public gatherings and parties, during which contests are held to eat the appetizing product. Some experiment by combining bacon with products that at first glance are incompatible with each other, hoping to find an original taste.
- In an average year, one American eats 18 pounds (about 8 kg) of the delicious delicacy, and the income from its sales reaches 4 billion dollars.
- Also in the USA, a record was set for eating bacon. Matt Stoney managed 182 tidbits (7600 cal) in 5 minutes.
- There is an officially recognized Bacon United Church in Las Vegas. On this day, a festive Bacon service is held there, couples are married and money is donated to charity funds.
It is interesting that the release of such bacon-flavored products as mayonnaise, popcorn and salt was dedicated to this date. And some manufacturers went further and offered lip balm with the taste of juicy roast pork and envelopes in the shape of steaks.
International Bacon Day celebration is all about having fun with family and friends. Even vegetarians can join in, enjoying the taste of soy bacon.
