Day of the city of Terebovlia
July 7 celebrates his Birthday of the city of Terebovlia. Terebovlia is one of the district centers of the Ternopil region, the oldest city in the entire Podillia region and one of the oldest cities in Ukraine.
First time name Terebovla recorded in the distant year 1097 in the “Tales of Bygone Years”. This year is considered the founding year of the city. The name itself, according to one of the versions, comes from the Old Slavic concept “terebyty” – to cut down, uproot trees.
Not only the respectable age distinguishes Terebovlia from other cities of the country, but also geographical features. And we are talking not only about a good location, but also about a difference of 90 meters between the lowest and highest points of the city. Even settlements in high mountains cannot boast of such differences.
Ancient history brought to the city and its surroundings about a dozen architectural monuments and historical buildings, which Terebovla managed to preserve. Almost all of them are popular among guests: Plebanivsky Viaduct (erected in 1896), People’s House on the walls of the seventeenth century, Terebovlyanskyi Castle (the beginning of construction dates back to 1366), Pidhoryanskyi Monastery, Church of Saints Peter and Paul. In 2001, the Cabinet of Ministers included Terebovlya in the list of historical settlements of the country.
