In today’s world, it is difficult to imagine life without television, radio, telephone and Internet communication. In fact, it’s really hard to estimate the amount of work that workers in these industries do on a daily basis. For the modern world, this field of services creates great comfort and makes life much easier. Employees of these areas usually do not rest on official weekends and holidays, like most citizens, they do not know bad weather or seasons, for them the most important task is to provide society with fresh and objective information. In order to support the initiative of radio, television and communication workers in Ukraine, their professional holiday was introduced, which is celebrated annually on November 16.
How did the idea to celebrate the Day of Radio, Television and Communication Workers of Ukraine come about?
Around the 1860s, the invention of wireless communication was first claimed. After that, many more studies were conducted, but all of them only confirmed the existence of this kind of connection.
Over time, the first radio towers began to appear and the first radio and television broadcasts began.
The first telecast in Ukraine lasted forty minutes and took place on February 1, 1939. In the post-war times, Ukrainian television was waiting for a wave of prosperity. The government has drawn attention to the importance of such broadcasts and introduced nationwide measures to improve the industry.
Already in 1989, commercial television began to emerge in Ukraine. We can observe the results of many years of development now, and as we can see, they are simply incredible.
The first call from a mobile phone in Ukraine was made by the President of Ukraine in 1993. The phone of that time was much larger in size and weighed ten times more than the modern one.
The idea of introducing a professional holiday appeared in 1994. It was then that the employees of the Ukrteleradiocompany proposed to the government to find a day for the celebration and received support for this initiative. The day of the celebration was chosen in honor of the day of the first radio broadcast in Ukraine – November 16, 1924.

- The first live broadcast in Ukraine took place in 1939. A forty-minute broadcast was held in the Kyiv television studio, during which Soviet viewers had the opportunity to observe the portrait of Sergo Ordzhonikidze.
