World doll day

What is this event?

World Doll Day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of June. In 2022, World Doll Day is celebrated on June 11. A doll is a favorite toy for people of all ages. The purpose of the holiday is to teach people to appreciate those who sincerely care about them. On this day, you can show your love and care to a loved one or a loved one by giving them a favorite doll.

How did the idea to celebrate World Doll Day come about?

The initiator of the introduction of this holiday was Mildred Seeley (1918-2001), an American businesswoman, doll collector and author of numerous works on the topic of making and collecting dolls.

The woman lived in a small village in the state of New York, and later moved to live in Green Valley, Arizona. Although Milred had never been to the countries where her favorite dolls were made, it was she who founded the International Club of Doll Lovers and Collectors. It was she who contributed to increasing the value of antique dolls. And in 1986, she wrote a letter in which she justified the need to create a holiday called “World Doll Day.”

Symbolism of the holiday

For World Doll Day special symbolism was created. Its author is artist and doll designer Bootsy Caillouite Tyner. The logo looks like a child with a German bisque doll.

The free logo was designed to promote this special day. It is worth saying that the holiday has its own page on the Internet, where you can find out information about the holiday, as well as events that will be held during the celebration.

Mildred Seeley’s letter about the introduction of Doll Day

“Haven’t you heard about World Doll Day? This is not surprising, since the idea of its creation arose only a few hours ago. However, in order for this day to begin to be celebrated, it takes the close cooperation of all doll collectors, all editors of doll magazines and newsletters, doll shop directors, library managers, doll makers, all grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers and fathers.

First World Doll Day – this is the second Saturday of June 1986. Give the doll to an adult or a child, a family member or a friend. If you don’t have a child to give a doll to, find one. There are many children without dolls.

You can even send the doll as a gift for a child living in another country. I have always felt that an ordinary doll can be an instrument of understanding. From the first time I started writing books about making dolls, my hope was that dolls would help make friends around the world and give everyone a little love.

Various doll exhibitions can be held on World Doll Day. I hope all libraries have a special doll exhibit. Museums will advertise their doll exhibitions. Magazines will issue special editions. Doll shops will conduct their advertising campaigns. Doll makers will make special dolls for World Doll Day. There will be puppet competitions with World Puppet Day awards, posters and trophies.

Sincerely, Mildred Seeley
