When we talk about Eid-Al-Fitr celebration in India, we also mean it in all of Indian subcontinent, not only India as a country. Before the Eid-Al-Fitr feast begins, there is night called “Chaand Raat”. The meaning of that name is literally “Night of the Moon”. Indians attend to family shopping, where girls and women apply special make-up called “Henna” on their limbs.

Kids are granted some money by their parents and other older relatives during this feast. And not only kids – there’s tradition of giving clothes as a gift to people that you know.

Just like Egypt, usual greeting during Eid in India is “Eid Mubarak”, too.  Before the feast there’s already an ambiance of righteousness and good will, that’s why Indians participate in such thing as “Zakat”. Zakat is a ritual of donating twentieth of man’s resources to the poor, mostly as food and clothing.

Some families are visiting graveyards to pray for relatives, which are resting in peace at the moment. Visiting neighbors is also a common way to spend your time.

Celebration in Pakistan

In Pakistan, like in Egypt, Eid-al-Fitr lasts for three days. When is Eid-al-Fitr in 2021 according to lunar calendar? The answer is May 12th, but that’s not for sure. Different sources disagree on this one. The reasons are differences caused by locality and the very principles of Hinji months.

So, what are the peculiarities of Pakistan’s celebration of Eid-al-Fitr? Main feature is Sheer Korma. It’s a sweet treat, which is given to every guest during the feast. What is it exactly? It is sweet pasta with milk, flavored with different nuts and dried fruits. Sheer Korma is also appears as traditional breakfast after the Eid prayer.
