World Parkinson’s Day

April 11 is celebrated annually World Parkinson’s Day. The date of the event was chosen in honor of the birthday of James Parkinson, the English doctor who first described this disease.

by name Parkinson’s called a neurological disease that occurs due to the loss of nerve cells in the substantia nigra. Parkinson’s disease is chronic and incurable, progresses slowly. It is most common in the elderly. The disease is also called shaking palsy because of its main symptoms (tremor, stiffness, slowness of movement), which may be accompanied by deterioration of sleep, memory or emotional state.

There are no specific causes of Parkinson’s disease, but environmental conditions and genetics play a role. It is impossible to prevent or diagnose the disease in advance, but doctors recommend a balanced diet and an active lifestyle.

In Ukraine, about 23 thousand people suffer from the disease.
