World Lymphoma Day

September 15 is held World Lymphoma Day. It was held for the first time in 2004 thanks to the initiative of an international organization – the Lymphoma Coalition, whose members are patients from 41 countries of the world. The purpose of the introduction is to draw society’s attention to people with such a diagnosis, to inform about this disease, its symptoms and therapy, as well as to encourage people to take care of their health and consult doctors on time.

Lymphomas are a list of more than 30 different malignant growths from cells of the immune complex that affect the lymphatic system (lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow). For the first time, changes at the cellular level in the case of lymphoma were described in 1832 by the scientist Thomas Hodgkin. A form of lymphoma known at the beginning of the 20th century was named after him.

It is very difficult to diagnose lymphoma in the early stages or independently, it does not have any specific symptoms. But the result of therapy directly depends on the speed of diagnosis: the earlier the disease is detected, the more chances for a positive result. Around the world, such a diagnosis is made about 1000 times in one day, more than 1 million people on the planet live with this disease.
