World Hepatitis Day

Every year on July 28 we celebrate an important event – World Hepatitis Day.

The history of the introduction of World Hepatitis Day

This date was initiated by the World Health Organization in 2011. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the date of birth of a doctor from the United States named Baruch Samuel Blumberg, who was born on this day in 1925. Bloomberg made the discovery of hepatitis B, for which he received the Nobel Prize.

What is hepatitis?

This is an inflammation of the liver that occurs as a result of a viral infection. Infection occurs through the consumption of dirty water or food, during childbirth, during blood transfusions, and through sexual intercourse. A severe form of the disease is liver cancer or cirrhosis.
