World First Aid Day

In 2000, members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement initiated an annual World First Aid Day. Since then, this holiday is celebrated on the second Saturday of September every year.

The initiators emphasized the importance of conducting life-saving educational events among citizens who do not have special medical education. An accident can happen at the most unexpected time, where no one expects it, and where doctors are not always nearby. Therefore, it is important that every conscious person has the basic skills to provide the necessary assistance to the victim to save life.

golden hour

  • In emergency situations, it is important to act decisively, because every second can be fatal, and delay can cost lives.
  • It is known that the compensatory functions of a person are aimed at maintaining a stable state and are active within one hour after an injury. Further, these functions are weakened. If you have time to provide help during this time, you can significantly increase the chances of saving the victim.
  • This period of time is called the “golden hour”, when a person is between life and death.
