World Day of Geographic Information Systems

World Geographic Information Systems Day is celebrated annually, usually on the Wednesday of the third week of November. GIS Day (abbreviated name) appeared in 1999 and is celebrated as part of Geographic Knowledge Week, which is held by the National Geographic Society.

What is a geographic information system? This is a computer system that allows you to collect, use, store, edit, display and analyze spatial data with all the necessary information.

For the Day of Geographical Information Systems, more than 80 countries organize various events: presentations, exhibitions, seminars, open lessons and open days. The purpose of the holiday is to spread modern geographical knowledge in all public institutions and to familiarize with the latest achievements.
