Saxophone Day
On November 6, the whole world celebrates International Saxophone Day. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the birthday of Adolf Sax, who invented and designed the saxophone based on the clarinet in the 1840s. Sax sought to fill the tonal gaps between sections with a flexible and powerful wind instrument.
The saxophone is considered one of the main instruments of jazz, but it is suitable for almost all musical styles. The instrument has great technical mobility, a singing timbre and a powerful sound, and is well combined with other musical instruments.
It is interesting that Adolf Sax himself called his invention a “mouthpiece ophicleide”, and the well-known name “saxophone” came later, it was proposed by Hector Berlioz. Read about it in our article – “Mundstuchny ophikleide” – the history of its origin and interesting facts about the saxophone.
