Santa’s birthday

Every year on November 18, in some Eastern Slavic countries, Father Frost’s birthday is celebrated. There is no documentary evidence that Santa Claus was born on November 18, but it is obvious that this should have happened with the arrival of winter.

Our generations are already used to the image of Santa Claus as a good miracle worker who gives children New Year’s gifts. But in fact, in the mythology of the ancient Slavs, it was a powerful and evil character who froze livestock and people. To appease him, they offered sacrifices, even human ones. Remember the fairy tale “Morozko”.

The positive image of Santa Claus began to be implemented by the Bolsheviks only in the 30s of the last century. He was supposed to replace the Christian saint – Nicholas.
