Memorial Day of Saint Nestor the Chronicler

November 9 is an important date for many representatives of the world of history and religion. Today is the Day of Remembrance of Saint Nestor the Chronicler. This outstanding person was born in the 50s of the 11th century in Kyiv. As a young man, he came to Saint Theodosius and received the rank of hierodeacon.

Nestor’s high spiritual life, deep appreciation of knowledge, humility and repentance, patriotism made him a monk respected by people. The main achievement of Nestor the Chronicler of Pechersk was the work “The Tale of Bygone Years” (1112-1113 years). In it, the monk spoke about the history of Russia, the church, and his people. To create the annals, he collected a lot of information from various sources, processed this information and wrote a deeply spiritual, historical-philosophical, theological work.

Nestor died in 1114 and was buried in the caves of Antonius Pecherskyi. He bequeathed his disciples to continue recording his great story. The work was continued by abbots Sylvester, Moisei Vydubytskyi (1200), Lavrentiy (1377).
