Father Frost and Snow Maiden’s Day

It is customary to celebrate on January 30 Santa Claus and Snow Maiden’s Day. This day marks the beginning of the end of winter and the gradual birth of spring. From ancient times, among the Eastern Slavs, the modern Santa Claus was represented in the image of Triskun – a pagan harsh spirit of cold and frost. For the first time in the modern imagination, Santa Claus appeared on New Year’s holidays in the 20th century.

Snow Maiden is considered the helper and granddaughter of Frost, who travels with him on New Year’s Eve. Her image became the basis of the character of the fairy tale – the girl who was born from the snow. The popularity of the winter granddaughter and grandfather began to spread when the New Year became a national holiday. Their day is celebrated annually at the end of January.
