Memorial day of the holy martyrs Markian and Martyrius
November 7 is the day of memory of the holy martyrs Markian and Martyrius. They were executed for their religious beliefs in 335, but their relics continued to heal the faithful.
Hypodeacon Martyrius and reader Marcianus served in the cathedral of Patriarch Paul the Confessor in Constantinople. After the secret execution of Paul by heretics, they tried to turn them away from the Orthodox faith and attract the Arians to their side. At first, the holy ministers were offered wealth and episcopal chairs, then they began to threaten them with torture and even deprivation of life. But the efforts of the heretics were in vain, so the saints were sentenced to death.
Marcian and Martyrius were beheaded and buried. But Bishop John the Golden-bearded ordered to transfer the holy relics to the church, which was specially built for this purpose. After that, several cases of healing from terrible ailments of those people who came to the relics of the saints were recorded.
- On this day, it is necessary to think with compassion about the poor, offended and unfortunate. According to beliefs, if it rains on November 7, people say that this sky is crying for all the martyrs.
