Mauritius Day
Every year on March 7, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the holy martyr Mauritius and his 70 soldiers – Mauritius Day.
Saint Maurice lived in the 3rd century in Egypt and was a military leader of the Theban legion, which was made up of Christians. Emperor Galerius decided to try the legion for spreading the faith. Legionnaires led by Mauritius did not renounce the Christian faith, for which they were subjected to terrible torture and were executed.
