International Skateboarding Day
Every year on June 21, the world celebrates a rather young sports holiday – International Skateboarding Day. The event was started by the International Association of Skateboard Companies in 2004. The initiators of the holiday were skateboarders from California (USA).
What is skateboarding?
This is an extreme sport, the essence of which is riding on a special board with wheels (skateboard) and performing various tricks (flips, balancing, sliding, jumping, etc.).
International Skateboarding Day in history
Skateboarding was formed in the 30s and 50s of the last century, again, thanks to California boys. The point is that surfers had nothing to do when there were no waves. Therefore, they attached wheels to boxes and boards and rode on them. The production of professional skateboards began in the 1960s. Recently, skateboarding was included in the program of the Olympic Games, which were supposed to take place in 2020 in Tokyo, but they were postponed due to the pandemic.
The purpose of International Skateboarding Day
