Independence Day of the Republic of Sri Lanka

February 4 every year Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka celebrates his independence, which she received not so long ago, namely in 1948. Today’s name of the republic did not appear immediately: at first the country was called Ceylon (as a dominion), and already in 1972 it was named Sri Lanka, which means “Blessed Land” in Sanskrit.

The state is famous for its tea: na Sri Lankans produces a tenth of the tea of ​​the entire planet, it ranks third after China and India. In addition, the island is famous for the production of sapphire.

The vast majority of local residents, namely 70% of the population of Sri Lanka, are Buddhists, 20% are Hindus, and 10% are representatives of other religions.
