Holi holiday

Every year on the full moon, Hindus and some representatives of other religions (Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs and Jains) celebrate the festival of the meeting of spring called Holi. The event is also called the festival of colors. Usually the celebration falls on February or March, in 2022 the start date of Holi, which lasts as many as 16 days, falls on March 18.

The central day of Holi (Julandi) is devoted to showering and dousing each other with colored substances, and on the previous day bonfires are lit and an effigy of the evil goddess Holika is burnt. Until the holiday Holi prepare a special drink containing marijuana – tandai, and play traditional instruments.

By the way, in Bengal, the celebration takes place under a different name: Dolyatra or Basanta-Utsab.
