Day of the submarine
Every year, the world celebrates April 11 Day of the submarine. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the date of the first immersion of an American boat under water in 1900.
First submarine (or submarine) was built by the Dutchman Cornelius Drebbel in 1620, based on the designs of William Bourne. The boat was launched into the Thames at the request of King James I. The structure was made of wood and covered with leather.
The very idea of diving to the depths with the help of a special ship has existed since ancient times: it is assumed that Alexander the Great used a similar underwater device.
Currently, submarines are part of the military armament of forty states and perform the following functions: reconnaissance, destruction of other boats, destruction of various objects, rescue, delivery of troops to the desired point, etc.
