World Engineering Day

What day is it?

World Engineering Day is a fairly young holiday, which is celebrated every year on March 4. Its purpose is to draw public attention to the importance of engineering and the engineering profession in the sustainable development program introduced by UNESCO. Society must understand that the achievements of engineering and modern technologies occupy one of the most important places in the further effective development of humanity.

How did the idea of celebrating World Engineering Day come about?

Despite the fact that the holiday was born quite recently, it has certain historical prerequisites for its creation. Celebration World Engineering Day closely related to the UN Resolution on sustainable and sustainable development, as well as to the goals in the regions, in the achievement of which the engineering society plays almost the most fundamental role.

Resolutions 70/1

The prerequisite for the introduction of the holiday was the adoption in 2015 of Resolution 70/1, which proclaimed 17 Goals for permanent and sustainable development in the fields of economy, social relations, environmental stability, and world peace. The importance of engineering in achieving these goals is difficult to overestimate. After all, it is the representatives of this profession who are able to implement such systematic and technological solutions that will contribute to the fastest possible implementation of the UN goals in the regions.

What areas need sustainable development? Energy, water resources, the system of cities and villages, the fight against natural disasters and emergency situations – this is only a small list of those areas of human activity that need solutions. Another issue that needs to be resolved is the problem of inequality, which is caused by unequal access to currently available technologies among different segments of the population.

The colors used to paint the central part of the image mean sustainable development in the fields of energy, water resources, innovative technologies and modern infrastructure. These areas occupy a central place in the global development of humanity and require the intervention of engineering as much as possible.
