Onesimus day

Every year on February 28, the Orthodox Church honors memory of the holy apostle Onesimus Onesimus daywho was the bishop of Byzantium.

Onesimus was born in Asia Minor, was a slave of a wealthy man, Philemon, who later freed him Onesimus. After his release, the saint devoted himself to apostolic work.

The people consider Onesimus the patron saint of sheep and shepherds, because of which he was nicknamed the shepherd. On February 28, they pray for love and do housework, but it is not recommended to plan the future on this day.

  • If there is little snow on February 28, the harvest will be poor.
  • A starry sky portends a good brood of lambs.
  • A red sunset promises heavy snowfall.
