Memorial Day of Saints Cosmas and Damian, miracle workers

Every year on July 14, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the holy miracle workers Cosmas and Damian – brothers from Asia Minor who led an ascetic lifestyle and spread the Christian faith.

For their piety, the holy brothers received the gift of miracles from the Lord. Cosmas and Damian treated people just like that, without taking any fee. Because of this, they began to be called silverless.

The names of the miracle workers reached the ears of Emperor Aurelius Karinus, in 284 the brothers were captured and imprisoned. Saints without silver did not betray the faith of Christ, for which the emperor decided to execute them. Then a miracle happened: Aurelia was suddenly struck by an illness, which was later cured by Cosmas and Damian. The brothers were released, and many people converted to the Christian faith.

Later, the holy miracle workers were killed by an envious doctor, tricking Cosmas and Damian into the mountains. The traitor was the brothers’ teacher and pretended to be their friend.
