Memorial Day of Saint Parthenius, Bishop of Lampsaki

The Orthodox Church celebrates February 20 Memorial Day of Saint Parthenius, Bishop of Lampsaki. This saint lived in the first half of the 4th century, at a time when Christianity was adjacent to paganism, and the spread of the true faith was a real feat. Born in a modest family, education was not available to the young man, but from a young age he was lucky to listen to sermons and be inspired by the words of the Saint letters

Parthenius grew up an extremely charitable boy and in his childhood he often shared the proceeds from the sale of caught fish with the poor. The soul of Parthenius was so pure that at the age of 18 he was gifted with the gift of a miracle worker. By the power of the word of God, the young man cast out demons from the possessed and healed the weak. News of these miracles reached Melitopol Bishop Philip, who later helped Parthenius to get a decent education. Soon the future saint became the bishop of the city of Lampsaka, located in Asia Minor. Thanks to his sermons, many residents of the city turned away from paganism and became worthy Christians.

The mercy of Saint Parthenius was so great that he never denied healing to anyone – many townspeople and travelers came to him. The saint lived a long life and died a peaceful death in the city entrusted to him, where he was buried with great honors.

According to tradition, hopeless patients turn to Parthenius with prayers. His holy relics help even cancer patients. Saint Parthenius had a good heart, he could not pass by someone who needed help. Therefore, on February 20, it is undesirable to refuse help to the poor. You can give them food or help in one way or another and ask them to read a prayer of thanks to the Lord God in the temple.
