Memorial Day of Reverend Stefan Novosiatel

December 22 is On the day of the memory of Reverend Stefan Novosiatel. The date of the holiday is included in the church Orthodox calendar.

Saint Stephen was born and raised in Constantinople. His parents were Christians Feofania and Zacharias. The family lived not far from the holy temple of Archdeacon Stephen the First Martyr. During pregnancy, Feofania observed strict abstinence from food. As soon as the baby was born, an image of a cross appeared on the child’s chest, symbolizing the crucifixion of the flesh with passions and lust.

In his youth, Stefan studied books, then joined the ranks of the clerics of the Church of Constantinople. After the death of Zachary’s father, which the young man foretold, Stefan led a hermit’s life for a long time. During a strict fast, the apostle appeared to him and instructed him to lead a pious life. Stefan refrained from all human pleasures, at the age of forty he achieved high moral purity. For 12 years, a man lived in a damp cave, aiming to mortify his flesh. Almost did not consume food and did not drink water. Saint Stephen died at the age of 73. For his piety and Christian virtues, people of the Orthodox faith honor the memory of Stefan Novosiatel.
