International Roma Day

April 8 is celebrated every year International Roma Day. The holiday was started in 1990 at the 4th World Roma Congress in Poland. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the date of the first congress and the Roma horse day (decoration of horses with wreaths).

International Roma Day aims to draw society’s attention to the Roma people, their self-determination and the fight against discrimination. All countries where the Roma live must contribute to the integration of this people into public life, because the Roma people do not have a historical homeland.
