Every year in the spring (on the last 3 days of the week before Trinity and the first 3 days of Mermaid Week), Ukraine celebrates a folk celebration called Green week. Green Sunday is considered the main day. In 2022, it falls on June 9.

The history of the Green Week

Green holidays were formed in pagan times and were based on the solar cycle, marking the beginning of summer. A long time ago, our ancestors had a cult of trees and a belief that the dead could influence nature. That is why the worship of the plant world is inseparable from honoring the dead. After the spread of Christianity, the Green holidays merged with the Trinity.

How to spend Green Week

Of Green weekit necessarily consists of commemoration of deceased relatives, youth drivers of round dances and singing in the forest, weaving wreaths, decorating houses with green branches and herbs, holding various ceremonies for a good harvest.
