Good Friday

On the Friday before Easter, believers celebrate the saddest day in the Christian calendar – Good Friday (also called Holidays or Good Friday). After all, it was on this day that Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross.

Traditions and beliefs on Good Friday

  • IN Holy Friday all believers do not eat anything until the shroud is removed from the altar.
  • The bells in Galicia fall silent on this day.
  • After the service, the whole family gathers at the table. As a rule, in Good Friday observe a strict fast – incl. it is forbidden to eat fish.
  • It is forbidden on this day to sew and chop firewood, or do any work that requires the use of an ax.
  • It is also forbidden to sing, because it is considered that whoever sings in Good Friday he will cry on Easter.
  • IN Holy Friday housewives did only two jobs: they baked belts and planted cabbage.
