Ethnographer’s Day (Ukraine)

On July 17 every year, Ukraine celebrates a professional holiday – Ethnographer’s Day.

What is Ethnography?

Ethnography studies the culture, customs, way of life, spirituality, origin, territorial location and other features of peoples (ethnos).

History of Ethnographer’s Day (Ukraine)

The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the birth date of the famous ethnographer and biologist Mykola Miklukho-Maclay, who was born on this day in 1846. The event was started in the 1970s by another prominent ethnographer named Rudolph Eats.
