Climber’s Day (International Mountaineering Day)

Every year on August 8, those who are not afraid of heights and are always ready to conquer a new peak celebrate their holiday – climbers – Climber’s Day (International Mountaineering Day).

A climber’s day in history

This holiday is founded in honor of conquering the highest peak of the Alps – the 4810-meter Mont Blanc. On August 8, 1786, the mountaineer and doctor by profession Michel-Gabriel Packard and the guide Jacques Balma reached the top of the mountain in 24 hours. The modern record – almost 5 hours (without three minutes) – belongs to the Spaniard Killian Jornet. Mont Blanc has been luring travelers since the middle of the 18th century. Every year in the Chamonix valley, several hundred people who wanted to reach the peak of Mont Blanc gathered, but all the ascents ended unsuccessfully.

Who should be congratulated on International Mountaineering Day?

This is a professional holiday not only for mountain conquerors, but also for those who are engaged in and earn money from industrial mountaineering. There are more and more high-rise buildings, and the use of scaffolding is not possible everywhere. Therefore, specialists who can paint facades, wash windows, remove ice and snow from the roof are simply necessary.

Day of conquerors of new heights – a holiday with a taste of adrenaline and excitement. For professionals in this business and amateurs, it is a day of meetings, exchange of experience, an opportunity to once again beat yourself or set a new record. This day is celebrated by brave and determined people who are always ready to demonstrate the limitlessness of human possibilities.
