Burkina Faso Republic Day, states in West Africa on the Mosi Plateau, celebrate on December 11. Until August 1984, the country was called Upper Volta, but it was declared an autonomous republic within France in 1958. A little later, on August 5, 1960, Burkina Faso officially gained independence from French rule. On the initiative of the local authorities, they decided to celebrate the Republic Day on December 11 – the anniversary of the formation of the Upper Volta AR. The most solemn national holiday is celebrated in the capital of the country, the city of Ouagadougou – with military parades and exciting air shows.
Today, the country is the largest exporter of cotton in West Africa and also supplies the world market with large volumes of gold. Burkina Faso is famous for its beautiful natural areas. The country is home to the famous Carfiguela waterfall, Lake Tengrela, and the Sindo Mountains. The largest population of giant African elephants under the protection of the state lives in the National Park of the Republic of Nazinga.
