Bright Monday
Easter is traditionally celebrated on Sunday, but spring Orthodox holidays do not end there. Bright Monday represents the day of Jesus’ victory over hell.
On Bright Monday entertaining rites are held, people give Easter eggs to each other. It is also necessary to visit (“to drag”), which is where another name came from – Dragging Monday. Also on this day it was customary for Slavs to bathe in clean spring water. It was considered a symbol of mental and physical purification.
The celebration does not end there. There are a lot of beautiful rituals, for example, singing gaivok – traditional Ukrainian spring songs.
