In the sixth week after the Resurrection of Christ, Christians celebrate one of the most important church holidays – Ascension of the Lord. It always falls on Thursday. In 2022, it is June 2.

The New Testament writes that, after rising from the dead, the Son of God stayed among his followers for 40 days, told them about the Kingdom of Heaven and prepared them to receive the grace of the Holy Spirit. On the 40th day, Christ gathered the apostles on Mount Eleon, which is near Jerusalem, gave the last instructions to go and teach all the laity, baptizing them, and ascended to heaven, sitting at the right hand of his Father. At the same time, two angels appeared who informed the disciples about the second coming of the Savior to earth. The apostles, rejoicing, returned to Jerusalem and remained in the temple, praying to the Lord and waiting for the descent of the Holy Spirit.

Ascension is the turning point of Christ’s earthly ministry to all mankind. Only in the IV century. the holiday became universally recognized. On this day, they greet each other with the phrase “Christ is risen!”, cookies are brought to the graves to remember the dead, and the shroud is buried in churches. Peasants go around their sown plots, swinging the krashankas on them, because during this period the ear begins to throw out.
