Anosmia Awareness Day
February 27 every year the world celebrates Anosmia Awareness Day. This day began to be celebrated in the USA in 2012.
Anosmia is a complete or (less often) partial loss of smell, which poses a threat to health in general. The lack of smell leads, for example, to digestive disorders, as well as to the complication of detecting poisonous substances. Loss of smell can be congenital or acquired (mucosal diseases, brain damage, viral diseases, smoking, toxins, tumors, etc.).
Anosmia Awareness Day aims to draw society’s attention to the problem of loss of smell, involvement in prevention (regular visits to doctors, X-rays, bacteriological tests, etc.) and timely treatment of diseases that can lead to anosmia.
