World Vegan Day

World Vegan Day is celebrated every year on November 1. The celebration began in 1994 on the anniversary of the foundation of the first “Vegan Union”, which appeared in Great Britain in 1944 on the initiative of Donald Watson. The term “vegan” was formed by shortening the word “vegetarian”.

Vegans – these are extremely careful vegetarians who have their own philosophy of life, which is not limited only to food. If you have chosen veganism as a way of life, then your diet should not contain products of animal origin – in addition to fish and meat, you should give up dairy products, eggs, etc. Vegans do not use natural fur, leather, wool, wood, etc. in their lives. The main goal of veganism is to protect animals from killing and cruel treatment.

It is interesting that the idea of vegetarianism and veganism appeared as early as 2500 years ago in India and in some other countries. Hinduism associates the rejection of meat with the sacred cow and the philosophy of transmigration of souls, Buddhists and Jains also supported veganism. It is known that the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras was a staunch vegetarian.
