International Geocaching Day
Every third Saturday in August is celebrated International Geocaching Day (International Geocaching Day).
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a tourist game using GPS. The essence of the game is to search for hiding places made by other participants. You can play geocaching both in a group and individually. There are family versions of the game. At the same time, some players make a hiding place, determine its GPS coordinates and report this information on the Internet. Other participants start searches using GPS receivers based on the provided geographic coordinates.
Sometimes the rules of the game recommend creating hideouts only in places of natural, historical, geographical and cultural significance. Thus, the search for hiding places turns into an educational and cognitive process, thanks to which players have the opportunity to get acquainted with interesting sights, learn a lot of cognitive information and unknown facts.
The more complicated the better
Difficult hideouts are highly valued in the game, the search for which involves the passage of many original stages. The search operation is complicated by the fact that navigation systems do not determine the exact position of the hiding place, but only outline the approximate location, the size of which can be from one to several meters.
