International Day of Philosophy

International Philosophy Day is celebrated every year in the third week of November. The holiday was started by the UNESCO World Organization in 2002, and already in 2005 the United Nations declared the holiday its International Day, so it was renamed “World Philosophy Day”. More than 70 countries celebrate the event.

In Ukraine, the Day of Philosophy began to be celebrated in 2006, when a scientific symposium was held at Kyiv University.

Philosophy (translated from ancient Greek as love of wisdom) is a worldview, a special form of knowledge of the world that studies general essential concepts, characteristics, principles of reality, existence, etc. This form of knowledge turns into philosophical teachings that have formed a whole science and discipline.

The purpose of the holiday is to popularize philosophy among all strata of society and all those who are interested in philosophical ideas. Scientists gather to discuss global socio-cultural issues and to involve society in the philosophical heritage.
