Independence Day of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

July 5, 1811 in Venezuela a declaration was adopted that declared the country’s independence from the Spanish crown. This date was celebrated annually as the Independence Day of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

But the Caracas earthquake and the Battle of La Victoria in 1812 led to the fall of the republic. To regain the independence of the country, Simón Bolívar raised troops and won in 1813. This time, internal uprisings prevented them from holding power.

Only in 1821, Greater Colombia, which included Venezuela, was officially recognized as independent from Spain. As a separate state, Venezuela began its existence in 1830.

Simón Bolívar forever remained a hero-liberator for his people. His name was included even in the name of the country. Every year on July 5, a solemn parade is held in the city of Caracas.
