Holy Martyr Eutychius

Believers honor September 6 Memory of the holy martyr Eutychius – a disciple and follower of the apostles Paul and John the Theologian. Eutychius, the future Archbishop of Constantinople, was born in the Phrygian settlement of Sevastia in the family of Alexander, a warrior, and Synesia, the daughter of a priest. His grandfather raised the young man and taught him literacy according to Christian dogmas.

At the age of 12, Eutychius was sent to Constantinople to receive an education. The young man studied science and achieved success, but then he realized that human knowledge is nothing compared to the teachings of Christ. The young man decided to devote himself to the service of the Lord.

Saint Eutychius is not included in the list of 70 apostles, but is called the same due to his work together with other apostles. After hearing the sermon of John the Theologian about Christ, Eutychius became his disciple, and later, together with the Apostle Paul, he spread the word of God in various cities and countries.

Many trials fell on the fate of the saint: he was starved, tortured with iron, thrown into flames and fed to animals. The saint ended his life in his homeland – in the city where he was born. There he was executed by the sword.
