Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia

August 17 is celebrated Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The Declaration of Independence was signed on August 17, 1945. The state flag was approved on the same day.

Until that time, Indonesia was formally a colony of the Netherlands, but was actually occupied by Japan. An interesting fact is that the approved declaration consisted of only 45 words and had 2 signatures.

August 17 is a national holiday. Indonesian representative offices do not even work in other countries. For Indonesians, this holiday is very important, and they start preparing for it in advance. In the cities, parades are held, facades of buildings are painted, streets are decorated with red and white flags and ribbons of the same color. Directly on August 17, the celebration begins with the official part with the participation of the president – the raising of the state flag at the Independence Palace in Jakarta.
