St. Gregory’s Day

The Orthodox Church celebrates February 7 every year St. Gregory’s Day, namely the Day of Commemoration of St. Gregory the Theologian. Also, this day is also called Grigory the winter indicator among the people.

The saint was a Byzantine theologian, Archbishop of Constantinople, Church Father and Patriarch. Gregory was born around 329 in the Cappadocia city of Arianza, where he lived and died on January 25, 389. The saint led an extremely ascetic lifestyle: he ate only vegetables, bread and water, slept on the ground, had practically no clothes and wore no shoes at all. Grigory the Theologian left many sermons, messages and spiritual poems as a legacy.
