Shavuot

Every year on the 6th of Sivan (Jewish calendar) Jews celebrate a religious holiday – Shavuot. According to the Gregorian calendar, in 2022 the date of the celebration falls on June 4. Outside the Land of Israel, the holiday is celebrated for two days.

Shavuot marks the giving of the Torah to the Jews, which took place on Mount Sinai. Therefore, “The Feast of the Giving of the Torah” is the second name. In addition to its religious meaning, Shavuot also signifies the arrival of a new season. For this reason, in ancient times, the Jews made a second offering of new wheat and first fruits.

On Shavuot, believers read a holiday prayer, and at night study “Tikkun Leil Shavuot”, traditionally decorate the synagogue with greenery. During the holiday, you must eat dairy and flour products, meat is served only after eating them.
