Memorial Day of the hermit monk Sisoi the Great
Every year on July 19, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the hermit monk Sisoi the Great, who lived in the Egyptian desert for 60 years, for which he received from God the gift of miracles. The Christian saint died in 429.
Legend has it that Sisoi the Great resurrected a dead boy. The father took his son to the monk’s cave to receive a blessing, but the boy died on the way. Later, in the presence of the saint, the young man came to life and rose to his feet.
Patron saint of farmers
Among the people, Sisoi the Great is considered the patron saint of farmers. On July 19, the saint gives all the healing power to nature, which is why on this day people walked barefoot through the dew and asked for a good harvest.
In addition, on Sisoy, men cleaned the house, not allowing women to do household chores. And all because our great-grandfathers believed in a domestic spirit that lived underground and was very aggressive, especially towards women.
It is also recommended not to rush anywhere on the day of the holiday.
