Memorial Day of St. John Cassian the Roman

The Orthodox Church celebrates March 13 every year Memorial Day of St. John Cassian the Romanwho lived in the 4th-5th centuries.

Saint Cassian was a Christian monk, theologian and writer. John was born on the territory of modern Romania (then the Roman Empire), led an ascetic lifestyle, traveled and wrote a lot about discipline and his own experience of temptation. Saint John Cassian is considered one of the founders of monasticism in Gaul, where the saint moved to live.

According to the folk legends of some parts of Ukraine, Kasiyan is depicted as evil and demonic. The image of Kasiyan in the people has a negative color, some villages did not even accept him as a saint. There is a legend according to which Cassian was an angel, but betrayed God. There is also a version of the abduction of the saint by demons who raised him to be a bad person.

On March 13, it is not recommended to leave the house before sunrise and work.
