Independence Day of Kuwait

Every year on February 25, the Asian state of Kuwait celebrates Independence Day. On June 19, 1961, Kuwait freed itself from the British protectorate. The date of the celebration was moved to February due to the strong summer heat (up to 55 degrees Celsius), which interferes with the comfortable holding of events. Independence Day was celebrated for the first time in 1962.

The official language of the country is Arabic, but a small percentage uses Kurdish and Farsi. The capital and largest city is El Kuwait. The area of the state is 17,818 km², and the population is about 4 million (1 million citizens). Kuwait is an oil-producing country: approximately 10% of the planet’s oil belongs to it. Interestingly, 98% percent of the population of Kuwait are urban dwellers.

Kuwait – an Islamic country that can boast of historical cultural monuments, but successfully combines traditions with modern art. For example, the Kuwaiti towers, which are located in the capital, are a beautiful synthesis of Arabic and modern styles of architecture; the towers reach a height of 187 meters. The Grand Mosque, which is distinguished by its beauty and scale, is also a striking example of Kuwaiti architecture.
