European Mobility Week

European Mobility Week is celebrated from September 16 to 22. The tradition of its celebration was started in 1994 by political scientist Eric Britton. He was the first to propose annual campaigns designed to reduce fuel consumption. His initiative was supported by the European Commission on Mobility and Transport, which includes representatives of the business elite from 42 countries of the world.

The European Mobility Week is designed to draw public attention to the excessive amount of road transport, the emissions of which pollute the atmosphere. Every year the holiday is dedicated to different themes.

  • The week ends with World Car Free Day. Activists suggest giving up their own cars at least for a day in favor of walking and public transport. Bicycle races aimed at popularizing this sport are an inseparable element of the celebration.
