Earth Rotation Day
Every year January 8 is celebrated by people from different parts of the planet Earth Rotation Day. In 1851, a French physicist named Jean Foucault created an instrument with which he later confirmed his theorem that the Earth rotates.
This is the second holiday of the year, dedicated to the 3rd planet from the Sun and its numerous ecosystems that provide life for humanity.
Foucault’s experiment that proved the rotation of the Earth
The device that helped make such an important discovery was presented in the form of a heavy brass ball suspended from the ceiling. A steel wire attachment allowed the pendulum to move in any direction. Turning the ball from side to side, Foucault noticed the rotation of the plane of the device, although there was no explanation for this. The scientist tried the model of the planet on a brass ball and was finally convinced that the experiment proved the theory about the rotation of the Earth.
It was on the night of January 8 that the researcher recorded the observations in the work log, and in the same year demonstrated his device to academicians in Paris. The device was named in honor of the researcher – Foucault’s pendulum. The memory of the experiment proving the rotation of the Earth is celebrated every year.
