Day of memory of the holy martyr Euthymius of Sardis

According to the calendar of the Orthodox Church the day of commemoration of the holy martyr Euthymius of Sardis is celebrated on January 8. Euthymius was exceptionally humble and benevolent. Submissive to the will of God, he became a wise bishop, caring and attentive to the faithful.

The holy martyr was distinguished by his awe-inspiring attitude towards holy icons. He sat together with other ministers of the church at the Ecumenical Council several times. However, he suffered because of his faith in Christ. No emperor of Constantinople managed to turn the bishop of Sardis to the side of hatred, so Euthymius died as a humble believer in the struggle for the holy name of God during the period of iconoclasm.

On the night of January 8, the hieromartyr could not withstand the numerous injuries received during the courageous defense of the holy icons, and died in prison. It is believed that his relics heal seriously ill people and give hope that everything in life will be fine.
